The Power of Words

There is an old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Thinking back on this statement that I used to sing aloud as a child, I wonder about its true validity. Maybe this simple sentence, that is well-known by so many, is actually more of a mantra to ward off bullies in their tracks or to self-empower ourselves from a very young age.

In reality, words are extremely powerful. They can incite riots, comfort, embarrass, shock, distress and bring great joy to the receiver. If they are so strong among grownups, imagine the effect they have on children.

In summary, please use your words wisely, whether spoken or written. Your words are more powerful than you will ever know.
