Many times we hear references to a snail as a negative connotation, such as "snail mail" or "you are moving at a snail's pace". In such a fast-paced society where things are moving at the speed of light, perhaps the snail has it right and we have it all wrong. Snails move at their own pace, but they glide smoothly over varied surfaces. What they lack in speed, they make up for in quality.

Snails are purposeful in their movement. They are diligent, they are focused, they persevere. Maybe we can gain a better understanding of ourselves through our friend the snail. Does everything that occur at lightning pace make it better all the time, or just faster? Does immediate gratification sustain us or does it just temporarily satisfy us until the next wish is acknowledged.

Perhaps moving at a "snail's pace"- purposefully with attention to detail and quality still serves a grand purpose. Perhaps knowing that you are progressing (even if it's slow and steady) as opposed to regressing is all you need to inspire you and cultivate the greatness within you. It works for the snail, perhaps we should give it a try.
